This series is celebrating all of the different friendships that exist in K-Pop. We will look at some of the moments when K-Pop idols showed off their close friendships with one another. SHINee’s Key and Girls’ Generation’s TaeYeon started off the series for us, followed by ASTRO’s Cha EunWoo, SEVENTEEN’s MinGyu, and the 97 liners. This month, readers voted for PENTAGON’s Kino and WOODZ in our monthly poll (at the end of the article) to be featured in this month’s article. If you are a new K-Pop fan you might not know how their friendship started. Let’s take a look back at their friendship. Kino is famous as a member of the K-Pop boy group PENTAGON and WOODZ is famous as a member of UNIQ and for his activities as a solo artist. WOODZ is well-known for his ability to become friends with anyone. You can read more about WOODZ’s friend group here but this article will focus on this specific friendship. PENTAGON’s Kino is also one of the most lovable idols out there. Anyone would want to be his friend after meeting him and we suppose that’s how he and WOODZ became close. Let’s take a look at the backstory of their friendship. During Dive Studios’ “UNBOXING” episode with ASTRO’s JinJin, WOODZ and Kino explained how they became friends and spoke about their friendship now after debuting. Interestingly, the three members of the podcast episode are all graduates of the Hanlim Arts High School. WOODZ and Kino were graduates of the 5th class together. Whilst, JinJin was in the 4th class. WOODZ and JinJin became friends because they are the same age. WOODZ proudly states that he is the reason the three of them were able to become friends. He seems like he would be the glue of a lot of friendships. WOODZ and Kino also shared that they enjoyed promoting at the same time when PENTAGON came back with their 11th mini-album “LOVE or TAKE” and WOODZ came back with his 1st single album “SET” in Mar. 2021. However, they couldn’t meet unless they were doing a live broadcast which was not as common at the time due to COVID-19 restrictions. Due to that, WOODZ says he really enjoyed every chance he got to bump into Kino. Here is a photo of them together backstage along with OnlyOneOf’s YooJung. You can watch the full episode and get a grasp of their friendship here.
The two have been close ever since their school days. WOODZ and Kino are even closely involved in each other’s musical lives and keep up with each others’ schedules and releases. In this V-Live Kino calls WOODZ because he saw him doing a V-Live moments before and they even sing lines from each others’ songs. How sweet is this musical bromance? They even released this song together in 2018 with Nathan and Jamie. The artists on this song were actually in a K-Pop co-ed project group formed in 2015 along with SEVENTEEN’s Vernon called M.O.L.A (Make Our Lives Awesome). We’d love to see at least WOODZ and Kino release another song together soon.
In Aug. 2021, WOODZ filmed an episode of “Welcome To My Baverse” with his close friends including VICTON’s SeungWoo. Kino appeared in the episode, too. Kino described WOODZ as his lifetime friend. The two talked about how when they first met they immediately became close despite their age difference. WOODZ and Kino dance together and share laughs in the video, making it a wholesome watch. Check it out below.
One thing is for sure, Kino and WOODZ have one of the sweetest friendships that we’ve seen amongst K-Pop idols. What do you think of these besties? Isn’t their friendship just adorable? Are there any other K-Pop idol friendships that you would like to see featured in this series? Let us know in the comments. Important notice: the vote only decides who will be covered in the next article. Everyone in the poll will be covered in the series eventually. Suggestions will also be gradually added each month.
